Record-Setting Day For Rand Leads To Ithaca Victory
Rochester, N.Y. - The Ithaca men's swimming & diving team (14-1) won 12 total events and defeated Rochester 190-110 Saturday afternoon. Senior diver Derek Rand (Amity/ Orange, Conn.) had a record-setting day for the Bombers. He scored 317.17 to place first on the 3-meter board and scored 296.40 to win the 1-meter diving event. Both scores were pool records and the score on the 3-meter board fell just one point short of the 28-year school record of 318.10 set by Dick Comanzo in 1984.
Junior Jake Lichter (Weston/Weston, Mass.) won two individual events and swam on the victorious 200-yard medley relay (1:36.34). Lichter's event wins came in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.89) and 200 breast (2:15.86).He was joined on the 200 medley relay by sophomore Connor White (Fox Lane/Pound Ridge), senior Jeff Rapp (Liverpool/Liverpool) and senior Antoine Connors (Spartanburg/Spartanburg, S.C.).
White also earned a victory in the 100-yard backstroke in 53.90 seconds. Rapp won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:01.87 and Connors placed first in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.00 seconds.
Sophomore John Carr (Brewster/Brewster) won the 100-yard freestyle in 48.65 seconds and was on Ithaca's winning 400-yard freestyle relay (3:14.72) with junior Chris Cadwell (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville), junior Jake Robbins (Fairport/Fairport) and Connors.
Freshman Clement Towner (Lansing/Lansing) won both distance freestyle events, timing in a 10:22.76 in the 1,000 free and 4:55.75 in the 500 free.
