Ithaca Women's Track & Field Team Opens 2012 Competition at Cornell
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca women’s track & field team kicked off its 2012 campaign competing at the Cornell Upstate Challenge on Saturday. The Bombers had 16 top-10 individual performances on the day, highlighted by three ECAC qualifiers and one school record.
Senior Jessica Hoeffner (Hauppauge/Hauppauge) placed third in the weight throw with an ECAC-qualifying, school-record setting throw of 15.55 meters (51-00.25), bettering her record of 15.33 meters (50-03.50) set in December. Four Bombers followed as senior Anna Lawrence (Ogdensburg Free Academy/Ogdensburg) placed sixth with a throw of 13.58 meters (44-06.75), sophomore Elaine Abdulky (Ithaca/Ithaca) seventh with a 12.68-meter (41-07.5) throw, senior Kate Middleton (Pinkerton Academy/Derry, N.H.) eighth with a mark of 12.40 meters (40-08.25) and junior Colleen Garman (Seymour/Seymour, Conn.) ninth with a throw of 11.69 meters (38-04.25).
Middleton hit the ECAC qualifier in the shot put with a fifth-place showing of 11.79 meters (38-08.25), while Garman followed in sixth with a mark of 10.99 meters (36-00.75) and freshman Corinne Taylor (Auburn/Auburn) eighth with a heave of 10.94 meters (35-10.75).
Junior Jenn Randall (Cincinnatus Central/Cincinnatus) won the 800-meter run in an ECAC-qualifying time of 2:19.38, while freshman Hannah Wright (Kennett/Tamworth, N.H.) placed 10th in the event in 2:29.93.
Also on the track, freshman Harmony Graves (Ithaca/Ithaca) ran eighth in the 400 dash with a time of 1:01.83 and three Bombers placed in the 500 run. Freshman Mary Claire Hartford (Washingtonville/Washingtonville) finished seventh in the event in 1:28.32, junior Katie Edwards (St. Joseph by the Sea/Staten Island) eighth in 1:33.96 and junior Hillary Cox (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) ninth in 1:35.28.
Senior Julie Orlando (Haverford/Havertown, Pa.) finished ninth in the pole vault clearing 3.00 meters (9-10.00) and classmate Hannah Evans (Penncrest/Media, Pa.) placed ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.06 meters (33-00.25).
The Bombers will next host the Empire 8 Indoor Championships on Saturday, Jan. 28.
