St. John Fisher Handles Elmira
The St. John Fisher College men’s basketball team routed the Elmira College Soaring Eagles 65-52 in Elmira, NY. With the Empire 8 Conference win Fisher improves to 10-9 on the year and 3-5 in conference play. The loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 0-18 on the year and 0-8 in the Empire 8.
Fisher dominated every facet of the game, shooting 57.8% from the field on 26-for-45 shooting and 50% (2-for-4) from beyond the arc. The Cardinals outrebounded Elmira by nine and led by as many as 19 late in the second half, leading by double digits most of the way.
Jordan Gettings led the Cardinals by having a huge stat line, including a game-highs for points (21), assists (6) and tied for a game-high in rebounds (6). Jason Norsen also had six rebounds while chipping in 18 points. Justin Plata was the third Cardinal to finish with double digits in points (10) while collecting three caroms.
In the first half the Cardinals led by as many as 11 on three separate occasions, including the 33-22 lead at the break. Fisher was powered by its two leaders, Jason Norsen and senior Jordan Gettings. Norsen led the way with 11 points and four boards in the period while Gettings added eight points along with four rebounds and two assists.
Fisher had a great performance from the field in the stanza, going 13-for-23 (56.5%) from the field. The Cardinal defense held its opponent to just 9-for-26 (34.6%) from the field and 2-for-6 (33.3%) from three-point land.
