Ithaca Men's Track & Field Secures Fifth Straight Empire 8 Indoor Championship
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca men’s track & field team scored 178 points en route to winning its fifth straight and sixth overall Empire 8 Indoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday at Glazer Arena.
The Bombers won eight of the meet’s 15 events and tallied 14 All-Empire 8 selections during the victory.
Ithaca claimed a pair of ECAC qualifiers on the day as senior Doug Koury (Nashoba/Bolton, Mass.) won the 400-meter dash in 50.62 and classmate Jusan Hamilton (Ithaca/Ithaca) was victorious in the weight throw with a 16.05-meter heave.
The Bombers took one-two in the 800 and mile runs. Juniors Billy Savage (Indian Hills/Oakland, N.J.) and David Geary (Brighton/Rochester) finished the 800 in 1:59.52 and 2:01.64, respectively. Geary also finished second in the mile with a 4:41.41 finish, with junior Nathan Bickell (Annapolis/Annapolis, Md.) leading the way with a time of 4:40.22.
Also victorious on the track was sophomore Jake Willis (Gorham/Gorham, Maine) in the 200 and senior Dan Craighead (Ithaca/Ithaca) in the 5,000. Willis crossed the finish line of the 200 in 22.92, while Craighead clocked in at 15:42.88 in the 5K. Willis also finished second in the 60 dash in 7.14.
Junior Brian Maley (Ithaca/Ithaca) won the long jump with a 6.68-meter leap.
The Bombers’ distance medley relay team of freshman Dennis Ryan (Coventry/Coventry, R.I.), junior Julian Orenstein (Trumbull/Trumbull, Conn.), freshman Mason Mann (Keene/Keene, N.H.) and Bickell won the meet’s first event with a 11:03.26 finish.
