NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (January 28, 2012) – Freshman Carlos Blandon (Miami Beach, Fla.) won two events to lead the No. 6 Stevens Institute of Technology men’s swimming team to a 120-82 win at SUNY New Paltz on Saturday afternoon. The win moves the Ducks record to 4-1 in dual-meets, and they will host No. 7 The College of New Jersey Sunday at the De Baun Aquatic Center.

Junior Greg Charriez (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.), sophomore John Hu (Oak Harbor, Wash.), freshman Jack Rees (Temecula, Calif.) and sophomore Joe Huyett (Blandon, Pa.) started the day with a victory in the 400-yard medley relay, turning in a 3:37.57. Blandon and Christopher Iosue (Bellingham, Mass.) went one-two in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:17.61, 10:20.43), while junior Alex Benham (Raleigh, N.C.) and freshman Wesley Elford (Phoenix, Ariz.) did the same in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.05, 1:47.26).

Senior Carl Nagle (Little Silver, N.J.) won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.48 and senior Matthew Smith (Cream Ridge, N.J.), junior Derek Smith (Boise, Idaho) and freshman Matthew Daw (Raleigh, N.C.) swept the top three spots in the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.23, 2:04.55, 2:07.79).

Huyett and freshman Price Hu (Oak Harbor, Wash.) placed first and second in the 100-yard butterfly with times of 54.84 and 55.41, and sophomore Shawn Hanak (North Royalton, Ohio) took the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking a 48.50. Sophomore Nick Noga (Oriskany, N.Y.) was third with a 49.80.

Sophomore Henry Hernandez (Chico, Calif.) placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (57.61), and Blandon’s second win of the day came in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.16).

The Ducks swam the final two events in exhibition but John Hu’s 1:01.98 in the 100-yard breastroke would have been good for a win as would have the 3:16.22 Nagle, sophomore Elijah Davis (Broomfield, Colo.), Derek Smith and Huyett carded in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
