No. 10 Stevens Tops New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (January 28, 2012) – Senior Sian Pearson (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and sophomore Louise Moores (Mukilteo, Wash.) each notched a pair of individual wins to lead the No. 11 Stevens Institute of Technology women’s swimming team to a 125-80 win over SUNY New Paltz on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Stevens improves to 4-1 in dual-meets and will host No. 10 The College of New Jersey Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore Megan Lisbon (Woodbridge, Va.), freshman Brittany Geyer (Brunswick, Ohio), Moores and senior Hayley Hatfield (Dallas, Texas) teamed to start the day with a win in the 400-yard medley relay, turning in a time of 4:03.48.

Senior Kim McCaffrey (Mullica Hill, N.J.) won the 1,000-yard freestyle with an 11:14.85, while Pearson took the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.44). Moores earned a victory in the 50-yard freestyle, touching at 24.82, and junior Allison Henning (Idaho Falls, Idaho) placed third with a 26.27.

Junior Marissa Douglas (Cumberland, R.I.) was a winner in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking a 2:14.69, with freshman Nicole Miller (Peoria, Ill.) earning a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.09). Hatfield was second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.86, and Moores’ second win of the afternoon came in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.00). Freshman Tiffany Chow (Wellesley, Mass.) was third, turning in a 1:05.85.

Pearson’s second win was in the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.85), and she was followed by Lisbon in second (5:30.18). Geyer took the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.29), with Douglas placing third (1:14.83), while the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Pearson, Miller, Henning and Hatfield combined for a win in the final event of the afternoon, finishing in 3:42.86.
