Houghton's Emilie Edwards and Ithaca's Becca Salant have been honored as the Empire 8 Women's Soccer Players of the Week after their performances during the week of Sept. 24-30.

Edwards wasted little time making her offensive skills known as she was moved from a defensive role to a forward position in the second half against Utica. The Highlanders dominated the first half of play, outshooting the Pioneers 17-2 but failed to capitalize. Edwards netted the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute. Edwards received a cross from Stephany Ellison on the right side of the box and made a couple of moves around some Pioneer defenders to deposit the ball into the left corner of the net.

The Highlanders travel to Buffalo State for a 4pm contest on Tuesday, October 2.

Salant posted back-to-back shutouts to help the #7/8 Bombers to a 2-0-0 week in conference play. She made nine saves, five against Hartwick and four against #21 Stevens. She has eight shutouts on the season and six consecutive.

Ithaca travels to Misericordia on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. match.
