Empire 8 Selects Johnson and Thomas as Athletes of the Week
Nazareth outside hitter Amy Johnson and Stevens Institute of Technology outside hitter Annemarie Thomas were selected as the conference's top weekly performers.
Johnson helped Nazareth to three-set sweeps in three matches last week, including conference wins over St. John Fisher and Utica last Saturday. She had 12 digs and against Brockport Wednesday night. Saturday she led the team with eight kills verse Fisher and served four aces against Utica. On the week she had a .536 hitting percentage, seven service aces, 16 digs and seven blocks.
Nazareth is home Tuesday for a non-conference match against RIT at 7 p.m.
Thomas helped the Ducks to a 3-2 week, including three five-set victories in four matches at home. Over the five-match week for Thomas, she totaled 38 kills and 20 digs. Her week was highlight by hitting .427 in a five-set victory in the Ducks Invitational over the United States Coast Guard Academy with 11 kills in 21 attempts. Thomas also tallied eight kills in each match against Haverford College and Baruch College, respectively.
Stevens travels to Vassar College on Wednesday, October 3 for a 7 p.m. match in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Ducks played the Brewers earlier this season and fell in four sets.
