Raplee and Gamble Tabbed for D3football Team of the Week
Alfred University senior nose tackle Mike Raplee and Salisbury University sophomore linebacker Steven Gamble have been named to the D3tootball.com Team of the Week, as announced by the website on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
The Team of the Week is D3football.com's weekly honor roll, recognizing the top performances at 14 positions from the previous week.
Raplee was honored for his performance in Alfred’s 31-7 victory over Ithaca on Homecoming, when he had eight tackles (five solo), including 4 ½ sacks and another tackle for loss.
The 6-2, 245-pound Raplee led a Saxon defense that held Ithaca to 143 yards of offense, a little more than a third of what the Bombers had been averaging. Ithaca had a mere four yards of offense against AU after averaging 195 in its previous four games. Raplee’s 4 ½ sacks were among eight the Saxons registered against an Ithaca team that, coming in, had given up only five. His final sack of the day forced a fumble, which the Saxons recovered at the 30, leading to their final score of the day.
The Saxons (3-1, 2-0 Empire 8) are in action next on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. at home against St. John Fisher.
Gamble took down St. John Fisher quarterback Tyler Fenti on the Cardinals 6-yard line, forced a fumble and recovered it to set up the go-ahead touchdown as the Sea Gulls completed a 28-17 comeback win against the Cardinals. Gamble also posted a career-high 14 tackles (nine solo). Gamble recorded career-high marks for tackles for loss (2.5) and sacks (1.5), as well.
Salisbury (4-1, 2-0 Empire 8) hosts Hartwick College Saturday at Sea Gull Stadium on Homecoming at 1 p.m.
