Three Teams Ranked in D3football.com Poll; Salisbury up to No. 8 in AFCA
The Salisbury University football team climbed to No. 8 in the American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) Division III Top 25 Poll and held at No. 7 in the D3football.com top 25.
Salisbury (5-1, 3-0 Empire 8) defeated Hartwick College, 37-7, on Homecoming Saturday to earn 730 points in the AFCA poll and 472 in the D3football.com poll.
The Sea Gulls rose one sport in the AFCA poll and trails No. 7 Hobart College by just six points. The top-six teams stayed the same with the University of Mount Union (1,049 points, 41 first-place votes) and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (1,007, one) sharing first-place votes.
The Alfred University (4-1, 3-0 Empire 8) football team is ranked 21st in this week’s d3football.com poll, after a 26-13 win over St. John Fisher. It marks the first time AU have been ranked this season; the last time Alfred was ranked nationally was prior to a loss to Salisbury in Week 6 of the 2011 season.
St. John Fisher (4-2, 1-2 Empire 8), which was ranked 11th prior to Saturday's game, drops to 24th in the rankings.
Alfred is in action on Saturday, Oct. 20, at noon at Salisbury, while Fisher returns to action at 4 p.m. as its hosts Ithaca College.
