Brook and Casey Dubbed FIeld Hockey Players of the Week
Freshman Dailyn Brook of Stevens Institute of Technology and freshman Kells Casey of Utica College have been named the Empire 8 Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
Brook helped the Ducks to a 2-0 week and a key win over conference rival Hartwick College. Brook scored once in the team's 3-1 win over William Paterson University on Wednesday night before playing a role in both Stevens goals in a 2-1 victory over the Hawks Saturday morning. Brook redirected a shot from sophomore Jillian Fiebel to tie the game at one, and then returned the favor, assisting Fiebel's game-winner in the 54th minute.
Brook finished the week with five points and now has 19 this season. She is second on the team with eight goals and has added three assists.
Stevens has now won three-straight games and is 10-5 overall. The Ducks will visit No. 16 Rowan University Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
Casey allowed just one goal as Utica went 2-0 last week. The Sandwich, MA native had a career-high 16 saves in the Pioneers' 2-1 win over #11 Skidmore, Wednesday. She followed that up with a three-save performance against St. John Fisher on Saturday to pick up her first career shutout.
Casey is 4-1 on the season and has helped UC take down two opponents ranked in the top 20 nationally. She leads the Empire 8 with a .818 save percentage and is second in the conference with a 1.52 goals against average.
The Pioneers are 9-4 overall and 2-3 in the Empire 8. They return to action Wednesday as they travel to Ithaca for a key E8 match up against the Bombers. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
