ROCHESTER, NY -- On the final day of the Empire 8 regular season Elmira College was idle in conference play but had already laid the ground work to contend for the top spot in the 2012 Empire 8 Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament. By the end of the last Empire 8 crossover session at Utica College on Sunday afternoon the Soaring Eagles earned top seed and hosting honors for the E8's which take place Nov. 3-4 at Speidel Gymnasium.
The Soaring Eagles finished the conference schedule 6-1, tied atop the standings with Stevens Institute of Technology. However, EC holds a regular season head-to-head win over the Ducks, making Elmira the one seed and Stevens the two seed. Ithaca College and Nazareth College, who both finished the regular season with 4-3 marks, earn the three and four seeds, respectively.
No. 4 Nazareth will square off with host No. 1 Elmira at noon on November 3rd, while No. 3 Ithaca and No. 2 Stevens will clash at 2:00 p.m., or 60 minutes after the completion of the first semifinal. The two winners will meet on Sunday, November 4th at noon in the Empire 8 Championship with the winner earning an automatic bid and advancing to the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Tournament.
