Empire 8 2012 Field Hockey Championship Tournament Field Set
On the final weekend of the Empire 8 regular season the Utica Pioneers and the Washington and Jefferson President’s have clinched a berth into the post season, joining Stevens Institute of Technology and St. John Fisher.
Stevens had the top seed secured following last weekend and the Cardinals knew they earned a bid as a second year program but were unsure of their seed.
There was a three-way tie for the second seed but based on the tie-break procedures Utica secured the No. 2 seed, thanks to a 3-1 win over Hartwick today. Fisher earned the No. 3 seed based on a head-to-head win over W&J, resulting in the President’s as the No. 4 seed.
The two semifinals matches will take place on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Stevens. The two winners will meet on Sunday, November 4th in the Empire 8 Championship with the winner earning an automatic bid and advancing to the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Field Hockey Tournament.
Saturday, November 3rd
No. 4 W&J at No. 1 Stevens, 11:30 a.m.
No. 3 St. John Fisher vs No. 2 Utica, 2:30 p.m.
Sunday, November 4th
If Stevens also hosts the men’s soccer final the field hockey final will be at 2:30. If they are NOT hosting the men’s soccer finals championship will begin at 1:00.
