Palladino and DeVitto Named Players of the Week
Ithaca’s Rachael Palladino and St. John Fisher’s Sydney DeVitto have been honored as the Empire 8 Women's Soccer Players of the Week after their performances during the week of Oct 1-7.
Palladino led the #6/5 Bombers (12-0-1, 5-0-1 Empire 8) to a 2-0-1 week with five points as Ithaca remained unbeaten in 2012.
Palladino, who ranks second at Ithaca in career goals with 56, assists with 21 and points with 133, scored the game-winner in a 1-0 shutout at #12/24 Misericordia on Tuesday. She assisted on the game's first goal against Nazareth and added an insurance goal of her own in the 3-1 Empire 8 victory on Saturday.
The Bombers return to Carp Wood Field on Saturday, Oct. 13 for a 1 p.m. match against Farmingdale.
DeVitto earned a shutout tie against the #6/5 Ithaca Bombers Sunday. DeVitto stopped five shots, several at point-blank range, to send the Bombers home with its first blemish of 2012. Helping to preserve the Cardinals’ unbeaten conference mark, DeVitto made 11 saves in 200 minutes in goal for a .786 save percentage on the week. She made six saves as the Cardinals defeated Utica, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon.
Fisher will return to action at 1 p.m. next Saturday at home when it puts its unbeaten conference record on the line against Elmira College.
