Villeneuve Earns Empire 8 Runner of the Week Honor
Utica, NY (10/8/2012) – Freshman Ashton Villeneuve of the Utica College cross country team was named the Empire 8 Conference Runner of the Week for the first time in her young career on Monday. She paced the Utica College women's cross country team to a third place finish out of 11 teams Saturday at the Hamilton College Invitational 5K.
Villeneuve led the way for UC as she placed sixth overall with a final time of 19:01.8. It was her best individual finish of the season and she was the top Empire 8 finisher, posting an average mile time of 6:08, while edging three other top 15 finishers from Empire 8 schools, including Nazareth and Ithaca.
The Pioneers return to the course, following a week off, on Saturday, Oct 20th when they head to Fairport for the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championships. The race will be held at Centre Park and is set to start at 11 a.m.
