Sportswoman team of the year announced

ROCHESTER, NY – Ithaca College head coach Dan Wood has been voted the Empire 8 Women’s Golf Coach of the Year by the coaches in the league. This marks the third time Wood has earned the honor.

Wood was hired as the inaugural coach of the women’s golf team at Ithaca, and is in his fifth year at the helm of the program in the 2012-13 season. He’s led the team to tremendous success, as Ithaca won the inaugural Empire 8 title in 2010 and repeated as conference champions in 2011 and again in 2012.

Throughout the fall season, Wood led his squad to another event victory and two runner-up titles. Ithaca will return to the course in April for its spring season.

In addition to Wood’s honor, one member of each team was named that institution’s representative on the 2012 Women’s Golf Sportswoman of the Year Team.  Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.

The first and second team all-conference teams were announced following the conclusion of the championship.
