Freshman Ravi Sun Named Empire 8 Swimmer of the Week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Freshman
Ravi Sun (Arkadelphia, Ark.) was named the Empire 8 Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday evening. Sun helped key the Ducks to a dominating performance over New York University Saturday afternoon.
Sun earned the top-spot with an NCAA B-cut time of 1:52.77 in the 200-yard backstroke, recording the second fastest mark in the nation this year in the process. He also earned a win and just missed another B-cut with his 51.79 in the 100-yard backstroke. The Ducks’ rookie also took second in the 100-yard butterfly, touching at 52.82.
In addition, the Arkansas native contributed to a second-place relay team, helping Stevens’ “B” 200-medley squad to a time of 1:37.81. His split in the backstroke was the fastest in the race (24.53).
In addition to Sun’s B-cut in the 200-back, sophomore
Wesley Elford (Phoenix, Ariz.) and his 16:16.65 in the mile swim was 20 seconds under the B-cut and is the fastest time in DIII this year. Senior
John Hu (Oak Harbor, Wash.) pocketed Stevens’ third B-cut of the meet with his 4:06.72 in the 400-yard individual medley.
Stevens (2-0) will now turn its attention toward the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships in East Meadow, N.Y. scheduled to run from November 30 – December 2.
