Louise Moores Earns National Swimmer of the Week Honors

HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 15, 2012) – Junior
Louise Moores (Mukilteo, Wash.) was named the CollegeSwimming.com / Counsilman Hunsaker Division III National Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday. Moores helped lead the Ducks to a 147-100 dual-meet win over cross-river rival New York University Saturday afternoon.
Moores led Stevens to four event victories – two relays and two individual.
In the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay, Moores teamed with sophomore
Brittany Geyer (Brunswick, Ohio), sophomore
Sharon Rooker (Forest Grove, Ore.) and freshman
Jennifer Rutledge (Suwanee, Ga.) for a win and time of 1:50.67. Moores tallied a 26.72 back split to open the race.
The Washington state native took the top-spot with a 58.54 in the 100-yard butterfly and did the same in the 100-back, touching at 57.78.
In the final event of the afternoon, she turned in an anchor time of 53.20 in the 400-free relay as the team of Rutledge, Rooker, sophomore
Nicole Miller (Peoria, Ill.) and Moores combined for a top-time of 3:40.76.
Moores has been earned National Swimmer of the Week honors from CollegeSwimming.com twice previously – December 7, 2011 and October 27, 2010.
Laura Barito ’11 (Arkadelphia, Ark.) earned the award on October 26, 2009, while senior
John Hu (Oak Harbor, Wash.) of the men’s program has tallied the honor twice as well (February 3, 2011 and October 27, 2010).
Evan Wilson ‘11 (Oak Harbor, Wash.) received the distinction on October 20, 2010. In total, the Stevens men’s and women’s programs have had individuals received the distinction seven times since October of 2009.
In the NYU meet, Stevens had the best mark in 12 of the meet’s 14 events as the Ducks improved to 2-0 overall.
Next up will be the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships in East Meadow, N.Y. in what will be Stevens’ first championship format meet of the year. The ECAC’s are slated to run from November 30 – December 2 and will close out 2012 competition.
