Moose and Kelly Earn Women's Hoops Weekly Honors
Houghton junior Kristen Moose and Nazareth freshman Lindsey Kelly have been earned the first E8 Player and Rookie of the week honors for the 2012-13 season.
A 5-9 guard, Moose averaged 19 points and 11.5 rebounds per game as the Highlanders opened the season with two victories and she was named the MVP of the Turkey Drive Classic.
Moose scored 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the season-opening win over Penn State Greater Allegheny on Friday night, then added 11-points and 11 rebounds in the Highlanders’ win over Pitt-Bradford Saturday afternoon. She shot 44.4 percent from the floor, hit 75 percent from the free throw line and averaged three assists per game.
The Highlanders return to action on Nov. 20 at Roberts Wesleyan.
Kelly, a native of Doylestown, Pa. and a graduate of Central Bucks East High School, Kelly averaged 15.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in the Golden Flyers' first three games.
She opened up her career with six points and a game-high nine boards against Fredonia last Thursday. Kelly scored a game-high 21 points as Nazareth rallied for a 58-55 win over Keuka Saturday and added a team-best 19 points in a 69-62 loss to Vassar Sunday. She represented the Golden Flyers on the all-tournament team for the Onnie's Classic over the weekend.
The Golden Flyers are idle until Nov. 27 when they compete in the annual Wendy's Classic. First-round pairings will be announced Sunday.
