Stevens Men's Soccer to Play Methodist in NCAA Host Round, Host at Arcadia

The nationally-ranked No. 7 Stevens Insitute of Technology men's soccer team (16-2-1) earned an automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship on Monday afternoon and will play Methodist University (15-2-3) in the opening round of the tournament. Stevens was selected to host the first and seconds rounds at Arcadia University in Glenside, Pa. on November 10 and 11.

The Ducks reached the 62-team field by claiming their sixth consecutive Empire 8 Conference title in penalty kicks over Ithaca College on November 4. This will mark the 12th-straight NCAA Championship appearance when Stevens takes on the USA South Champion Methodist Monarchs.

Haverford College and Wesleyan University make up the other half of the pod. The winner of each contest will move onto the second round which will be held on Sunday, November 11.

Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks 
(16-2-1)
Stevens enters the NCAA Tournament ranked No. 5 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, No. 12 in the D3Soccer.com poll and on a 15-match unbeaten streak. The Ducks have not surrendered a goal in their last seven games and have 12 shutouts to their credit this season. The team has given up the eighth-fewest goals of any team in the nation this season (0.47 per game).

Individually, junior goalkeeper Paul Killian (Ellicott City, Md.) been the headliner the Ducks, earning MVP honors at the Empire 8 Tournament and putting up the third-best save percentage in the NCAA this year at .902. Killian also has the sixth-best goals-against average in the country at 0.373 goals per match and has not been scored upon in his last 660 minutes of game time.

Offensively, senior Victor Daza (North Plainfield, N.J.) leads the Ducks in every category with 12 goals, seven assists, 31 points and four game-winning goals. Stevens averages just under two and a half goals per game.

This year marks Stevens' 12th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance, and the team has now won nine consecutive conference titles.
