Suderley and Rossi Named Preseason All-Americans

2013 D3hoops.com Preseason All-Americans

BLOOMINGTON, MN- Hartwick men’s basketball junior forward Jared Suderley (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley) and Ithaca senior Sean Rossi (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) have been named to the preseason D3Hoops.com All-America Team.

Suderley was one of only five players from around the country to be named to the First Team. Rossi was named an honorable mention selection. 

Suderley was named the Empire 8 Player of the Year and a league first team selection last season. He was named a D3hoops.com and NABC Coaches’ Division All-American. In addition, he was a NABC East Region All-District, D3Hoops.com All-East Region and ECAC Upstate 1st team pick.

Suderley led the Hawks in points (19.6) and rebounds (8.6) last year. In last season’s NCAA Tournament game against Farmingdale State at Lambros Arena, he scored a career-high 40 points and became the second player in Hartwick history to eclipse 1,000 career points in just two seasons.

Hartwick is coming of a record-tying 23-win season in 2011-12. The Hawks begin the 2012-13 campaign on November 16 when they face SUNY Purchase in the Regis College Tip-Off Tournament.

Rossi, who averaged 9.3 assists per game in 2011-12, led the nation is assists for the third consecutive season. He dished out 259 assists, four shy of his single-season school record of 263 set in 2010-11. He secured the school record for career assists with 743 – a career average of 9.0 per game. Rossi earned Empire 8 First Team recognition and was named the Empire 8 Championship Tournament MVP as a junior. He added 9.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per game and recorded four double-doubles.

Ithaca, who finished the 2011-12 season with a 14-14 record, won its first Empire 8 Tournament championship. The Bombers advanced to the NCAA tournament for the third time in four years.

Ithaca will open its 2012-13 campaign on Nov. 16 versus Potsdam at the North Country Invitational at Clarkson.
