Empire 8 Women's Soccer All-Conference Teams Announced

ROCHESTER, NY – Empire 8 co-champion Ithaca College took home two of the four major individual honors as part of the 2012 All-Conference Women’s Soccer Teams. Rachael Palladino earned Offensive Player of the Year accolades for the third straight year while head coach Mindy Quigg and staff secured the Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year award. Nazareth senior Amanda Sudore was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year and Stevens Institute of Technology forward Carly Bean was selected as the Rookie of the Year.

Palladino, a senior from Lansing, has put together a stellar career that began with the league’s top rookie award in 2009. She is a rare occurrence in any sport earning Player of the Year honors three times and is now a four-time First Team all-conference honoree. Palladino currently leads the Bombers (17-1-2) with 28 points this season on a conference-high 13 goals and two assists. She has registered at least one point in 12-of-18 games played and has helped jumpstart Ithaca’s offense to the tune of 52 goals and 2.6 tallies per game.

Sudore, an Ontario, NY native, anchored a defensive unit that limited opposition to less than one goal per game (0.84). She stepped forward to notch a goal in the regular season against Stevens and helped the Golden Flyers earn a share of the conference title. Sudore is a three-time first-team all conference honoree.

Bean (Williamson, NY) made an immediate impact on the Ducks’ field this year. She started 15-of-18 games and finished second on the team with 15 points on six goals and three assists. Bean’s Rookie of the Year honor marks the third straight year a Steven’s player has been recognized.

Mindy Quigg adds this coaching honor to four previous Empire 8 top coaching awards, her last coming in 2009. In her 19th season at Ithaca, Coach Quigg has led the Bombers to a share of the conference title and their 10th straight NCAA Tournament. The Bombers earned the Empire 8's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 3-2 advantage in penalty kicks.

One member of each team was named that institution’s representative on the 2012 Women’s Soccer Sportswoman of the Year Team.  Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
