The Empire 8 Conference has honored St. John Fisher’s Optimystik Kinard and Elmira’s John Mullane as its Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for the week of Dec 10-16.

Kinard paced the Cardinals to a 49-point victory over Pitt-Bradford on Dec 16, dropping a career-high 32 points as his team routed the Panthers 106-57.  The sophomore netted 16 points in each half, including a career-best six 3-pointers.  It was the most points scored by a Fisher player since January 8, 2011 – a span of 46 games.

As a team, Fisher hit a number of milestones in their lone game of the week, as the 17 3-pointers made tied a College record.  It was the first time the Cardinals have scored 100 points in regulation since November 23, 2004 and the most points in a game since a 111-99 win in four overtimes at Ithaca College back in 2007.

The Cardinals will have some time off for the Holiday break, and will return to action at 8 p.m. on December 29th when they host Baruch College in the opening round of the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa Tournament.

In just 16 minutes of action, Mullane grabbed five rebounds, dished out two assists and scored five points as Elmira dropped a non-conference battle, 71-66, to host Hilbert College on Dec 15. Mullane shot 50 percent from the field and made his only three-point attempt.

Elmira returns to action December 28th at 8:00 p.m. when it takes on the United States Merchant Marine Academy in the first of two games in the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida.
