Escobido Powers Ithaca Past Elmira 72-56

Elmira, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College women's basketball team (19-4, 11-1 Empire 8) posted season-high totals of 23 free throws and 28 free-throw attempts in defeating host Elmira (8-15, 4-8 Empire 8) Friday. Sophomore forward Jenn Escobido scored a career-best 21 points and pulled down a team-leading 12 rebounds for the Bombers, who play a 2 p.m. game at Alfred Saturday.

The Bombers used a 21-0 run that spanned both halves to blow open a close game. The Soaring Eagles held a 27-25 lead with 2:04 left in the first period before Ithaca exploded for the final nine points of the first period and the first 12 of the second.

Escobido scored five of Ithaca's points in the 9-0 run that closed the first half. Nine of the Bombers' points in the 12-0 second-period-opening run came from junior center Devin Shea.

Shea finished with 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocked shots.

Senior guard Jess Farley contributed 11 points, four rebounds and three assists. Sophomore guard Kathryn Campbell recorded 10 points, six rebounds and three assists.

The win was Ithaca's ninth straight over Elmira and extended the Bombers' lead in the series to 39-11.
