Nazareth tops St. John Fisher in season finale

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Seniors Brittany Wilson and Katie Kollar combined to score 35 points for visiting Nazareth Saturday as the Golden Flyers closed out their 2011-12 women’s basketball season with a 70-61 victory over St. John Fisher.
 
Nazareth ended its season with an overall record of 12-13, including a 5-9 mark in Empire 8 Conference play. Fisher slipped to 11-14 overall and 7-7 in the E8.

Kollar's 17 points included four three-point baskets and enabled her to set the Nazareth single-season record with 69 threys, surpassing the mark held by Shannon Dwyer since 1988-89. Wilson's 18 points were a game high and came on 6 for 13 shooting with one three-pointer. She also had nine rebounds.
 
Nazareth led by as many as 16 points in the first half before settling for a 32-24 lead at the break. The Golden Flyers connected on 6 of 10 three-point baskets in the first 20 minutes, including three by Kollar, who scored 11 of her points. Wilson added nine points in the first half.

Nazareth stayed in front in the second half, but Fisher closed to within four, 62-58, on a basket by Portia Velasco with 1:21 to go. Nazareth preserved the win by making free throws. Brittany Patenaude and Wilson each hit two free throws to extend Nazareth's lead to 66-58 with less than a minute to play.

A basket by Brittany TallChief and two more free throws by Kollar extended the final margin to 70-61.

TallChief finished with a team-best 11 rebounds and senior Erica Shaw also posted a double-digit point total with 10.
