Ithaca Meets Eight ECAC Qualifiers at Cornell

Ithaca, N.Y. – The Ithaca women’s track & field team hit eight ECAC qualifiers on Saturday at Cornell’s Marc Denault Memorial Invitational along with 18 top-10 finishes.

Junior Tammia Hubbard and freshman Christine Benway each qualified for ECACs in the 60-meter hurdles with finishes of 9.32 and 9.40, respectively. Hubbard also finished seventh in the 300 dash with a time of 43.89.

The other ECAC qualifier on the track was the Bombers’ 1,600 relay of senior Becca Coffman, freshman Harmony Graves and juniors Ebonie Howard and Rachel Spirito. They team clocked a 4:03.90 finish to place second.

Ithaca had three ECAC qualifiers in the weight throw as senior Jessica Hoeffner placed fifth with a 15.94-meter heave, just one centimeter shy of her school-record mark. In eighth place, classmate Anna Lawrence had a mark of 14.21 meters and senior Kate Middleton finished ninth with a 14.08-meter throw. Falling just short of the qualifier, junior Colleen Garman placed 10th with a 13.83-meter performance. Garman also finished ninth in the shot put with a mark of 11.34 meters.

Senior Emma Dewart cleared the qualifier in the high jump and freshman Emilia Scheemaker hit the standard in the triple jump. Dewart cleared 1.65 meters, while Scheemaker recorded a mark of 11.10 meters as they both placed third in their respective events. Dewart also ran 10th in the 60 dash in 8.21.

The Bombers had two place in the top 10 in the 200, the 400 and the 500 dashes. Freshman Rachel Friedman finished ninth in the 200 in 27.24 and sophomore Kheiyasa Carter followed in 10th with a time of 27.28. In the 400, freshman Kristen Swanson placed eighth and sophomore Martyann Chromik ninth with times of 1:03.49 and 1:03.65, respectively. Freshman Brittany Greene finished the 500 eighth in 1:24.43 and senior Kristin Miga 10th in 1:25.40.

Junior Jenn Randall placed sixth in the 800 run in 2:16.66 and freshman Emily Smith finished eighth in the 1,000 in 3:08.16.

The Bombers will next compete on Feb. 24-25 at the NYSCTC Indoor Championships hosted by Hamilton.
