Ithaca Men's Swimming & Diving Team Defends Conference Title
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca men's swimming & diving team begins defense of its Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association (UNYSCSA) and Empire 8 titles Wednesday with the start of the UNYSCSA and E8 championship meet at Webster Aquatic Center near Rochester. The Bombers captured the fourth state title in program history at the 2011 meet and won the Empire 8 championship for the fourth time in the event's 11 years.
Fans can follow the action all week long through the meet's official timing and scoring page which is updated following each event. Nazareth is the host school for the event, and ticket information and a schedule of events is available at the meet's official site. Event preliminary heats begin at 10 a.m. each day, with event finals set to begin in the evening session at 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
Ithaca finished the dual-meet season with a 16-1 mark, which equaled the program record for wins in a season, previously achieved in the 2001-02 campaign. The Bombers outscored 13 teams in the 2011 state meet and totaled 46 all-state finishes, including event titles in three individual events and one relay. Ithaca returns 12 swimmers and divers who earned all-state honors last year to compete in 2012.
Senior Antoine Connors will defend his title in the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore Taylor Van Cott will defend his championship in the 100-yard butterfly and sophomore Connor White will look to repeat as champion in the 100-yard backstroke. Junior Jake Lichter and junior Jake Robbins return with
Van Cott and
White as champions in the 200-yard medley relay.
