Ithaca Women's Swimming & Diving Team To Vie For State, Conference Titles
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca women's swimming & diving team begins defense of its Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association (UNYSCSA) and Empire 8 titles Wednesday with the start of the UNYSCSA and Empire 8 championship meet, which continues through Saturday at the Webster Aquatic Center in suburban Rochester. Ithaca has won all 12 Empire 8 championships that have been contested, and the Bombers have placed among the top-three teams in the state for 32 consecutive years, dating back to the 1979-80 season. Ithaca has placed first in the state meet for three straight years.
Fans can follow the action all week long through the meet's official timing and scoring page which is updated following each event. Nazareth is the host school for the event, and ticket information and a schedule of events is available at the meet's official site. Event preliminary heats begin at 10 a.m. each day, with event finals set to begin in the evening session at 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
Ithaca completed an undefeated dual-meet season with a 12-0-1 record. It is the eighth undefeated season in program history. The Bombers placed first of 14 teams at last year's meet, and totaled 54 all-state honors at the 2011 championships including six event championships. The Bombers return 12 all-state honorees from last year's team to compete for 2012 honors.
Junior Carly Jones will defend her state and Empire 8 titles in the 200- and 400-yard individual medley events. Senior Jodi Costello will defend her title in three-meter diving.
