Two School Records Snapped as Bombers Place Second at NYSCTC Championships
Clinton, N.Y. – The Ithaca men’s track & field team recorded a second-place finish at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday hosted by Hamilton. The Bombers tallied 154 points, just 5.5 shy of the first-place team, in recording its second straight runner-up finish. The Bombers have placed in the top five in each of the past five years.
Ithaca notched 19 individual All-NYSCTC performances and a pair of all-state team finishes in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter relays during day two of competition.
Junior Alec Svoboda won the heptathlon with a school-record point total of 4,294 on Saturday after sitting fifth at the conclusion of day one competition. He was third in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:52.51.
Junior Matt Confer hit the ECAC standard in the 60 hurdles finals with a third-place finish of 8.52 to set a new school record.
The Bombers placed three in the triple jump as senior Travis Johnson placed second with a jump of 13.29 meters, sophomore Brennan Edmonds third with a mark of 13.20 meters and junior Brian Maley sixth with a 13.07-meter leap.
Ithaca seniors Jusan Hamilton and Spencer Barry each earned All-NYSCTC finishes in the weight throw. Hamilton finished second with an ECAC-performance of 16.22 meters and Barry placed sixth with a toss of 14.65 meters.
The Bombers earned all-state honors in 10 track events.
The Bombers placed two in the 500 run as freshman Mason Mann won the event in an ECAC-qualifying 1:06.89 and junior Matthew Kastler placed sixth with another ECAC-good time of 1:07.79
Senior Doug Koury finished third in the 400 dash finals in 50.92, while sophomore Brennan Edmonds followed in sixth with a time of 51.62.
Juniors David Geary and Nathan Bickell ran fist and fifth in the mile run clocking times of 4:22.89 and 4:24.46, respectively. The duo also placed in the 1,000 run.
Geary finished second with an ECAC-qualifying time of 2:34.07 and
Bickell ran seventh in 2:37.23.
Freshman Dennis Ryan won the 800 run in 1:58.41 and junior Billy Savage crossed the finish line sixth in 2:00.59.
Sophomore Jake Willis ran sixth in the 60 dash with a time of 7.18 and senior Dan Craighead placed eighth in the 3,000 run in 9:00.88.
The Bombers’ 3,200 relay of
Kastler,
Mann,
Savage and
Ryan placed second with an ECAC-qualifying time of 8:02.45.
Edmonds, freshman Matt Killian,
Willis and
Koury teamed up to close out action on the track with a 3:26.61 victory in the 4x400 relay.
Ithaca will next travel to the ECAC Indoor Championships at the Armory on March 2-3.
