Ithaca Men's Swimming Maintains Lead At UNYSCSA / E8 Meet

Webster, N.Y. – The Ithaca men's swimming & diving team extended its lead in the overall standings on the third day of competition at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association and Empire 8 championships at the Webster Aquatic Center. Ithaca has totaled 1,142 points and holds an 88-point lead over the next closest team headed into the final day of the four-day meet.

Ithaca placed second in the finals of the 800-yard freestyle relay and made the NCAA B qualifying standard with a school-record time of 6:52.36. The quartet was comprised of freshman Clement Towner, sophomore John Carr, senior Jeff Rapp and junior Chris Cadwell.

Sophomore Taylor Van Cott placed second in the finals of the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:54.21, just 13 hundredths of a second slower than his school record set at this meet last year. Sophomore Connor White was third in the finals of the 100-yard backstroke in 52.10 seconds. He set the Ithaca record in the 100 back at this meet last year.

Junior Jake Lichter was Ithaca's top finisher in the finals of the 100-yard breaststroke swimming 58.60 to place third. Junior Jake Robbins placed fifth in the 100 breast. He swam his prelim heat in 58.35 seconds, the fifth-fastest time in Ithaca history. Sophomore Cheffy Thomas was sixth in the finals of the 100 breast in 58.70 seconds, the eighth-fastest time by a Bomber.

The Bombers placed three divers among the top-six in the men's 1-meter competition. Junior Martin Brown was fourth with a total of 454.60, freshman Matt Morrison was fifth with 448.50 and senior Derek Rand was sixth with a score of 444.50. All three of those scores met the NCAA diving standard provisional mark.
