Backstroke Efforts Boost Ithaca At UNYSCSA / E8 Meet

Webster, N.Y. – The Ithaca women's swimming & diving team placed three swimmers in the finals of the 100-yard backstroke and set a school record in that event on the third day of competition at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association and Empire 8 championships at the Webster Aquatic Center. Ithaca leads the team standings with 989 points, 49 ahead of the second-place team.

Freshman Kylie Bangs met the NCAA B qualifying standard and set an Ithaca school record in the 100 back preliminaries in 58.06 seconds. She went on to finish second in the event finals in 58.41 seconds. Sophomore Emily Hoskinson finished fifth in the finals and senior Missy Keesler was sixth. Hoskinson's time of 58.95 seconds in the finals ranks fifth all-time at Ithaca.

Two Bombers placed in the finals of the 200-yard butterfly as junior Laura Goodwell timed in at 2:11.70 in the preliminaries and senior Cali DeSanto swam 2:14.34 in the prelim heats. Goodwell went on to finish fifth and DeSanto was seventh in the event finals.

Junior Madi Sherry placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.40.

Ithaca's top relay placed second overall in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:46.71, the fourth-best time in program history, behind the efforts of sophomore Elizabeth Gawrys, junior Carly Jones, Keesler and freshman Megan Buisman.
