Hoboken, NJ – The Elmira College Women’s Basketball team picked up an important road win, 51-48, Friday evening in Hoboken. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 8-13 overall and 4-6 in Empire 8 play, while the Ducks fall to 8-12 overall and 5-5 in conference competition.

Elmira got off to a 19-12 lead just over midway through the first half; however, Stevens went on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 19-18. The teams played back-and-forth as Stevens reclaimed a one point, 26-25, lead at intermission. Liz Forrest ’14 (North Walpole, NH -- Fall Mountain) led EC with eight points, while Jessica Zoltowski ’14 (Erie, PA -- Harbor Creek) chipped in with seven points. Jillian Barrett paced the Ducks with nine points.

In the second half neither team led by more than four points as the teams were tied at four different points. The Ducks led by one with just over six minutes remaining, but after an Alex Balara ’15 (Marlton, NJ -- Gloucester Catholic) steal and Tempestt Black ’14 (Wolcott, NY -- North-Rose Wolcott) lay-in, the Soaring Eagles never trailed again. EC held onto a slim lead down the stretch, never leading by more than three. Balara made two key steals in the final two minutes and Forrest knocked down two free throws with four seconds remaining to give EC a three point lead. Barrett missed on a three-pointer at the buzzer that would have tied the contest, as Elmira held on for a thrilling 51-48 victory.

The Soaring Eagles had balanced scoring as they placed three players in double figures. Forrest and Maria Thannhauser ’14 (Newfield, NY -- Newfield) finished with 14 points each, while Zoltowski added 12. Victoria Webber and Avis Benjamin paced the Ducks with 11 points apiece.
