Three Hartwick Field Hockey Players Named to National Academic Squad
CHANDLER, AZ – On Monday, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its 2011 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Squads. Three Hawks – junior
Cassie Jonaitis (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point), and sophomores
Megan Lefeber (Riverton, CT/Northwestern Reg. 7) and
Holley Reynolds (Walton, NY/Walton) - were recognized on the squad for their academic achievements.
The NFHCA National Academic Squad honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year.
Jonaitis earns the honor for the third time in her career at Hartwick. The junior defender is a nursing major at ’Wick with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.44.
She played in all 17 games this season, making 16 starts on the back line. She registered one defensive save on the year. Jonaitis has played in 41 games for the Hawks in three seasons with one career tally.
Lefeber has now been selected to the national academic squad for the second straight season. She is a nursing major with a 3.90 cumulative GPA.
She was one of only two players on Hartwick’s roster to start in every game this season and she finished the year tied for third in assists (4). Over her two seasons with the program, she has played in all 34 of Hartwick’s games, starting 32 of them, and has two goals and four assists.
Reynolds is a first-time award winner. She started 16 games for the Hawks, led the team in defensive saves, and scored one goal in a 4-3 win over Morrisville State.
She has played in 33 games in a Hartwick uniform and has a cumulative GPA of 3.55.
