Dewart Sets School Record to Repeat as Pentathlon National Champion
Grinnell, Iowa – Senior Emma Dewart became a two-time NCAA pentathlon champion as she powered to a school record 3,674 points on Friday at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at Grinnell.
Dewart, who won the event with 3,535 points a year ago, is a 10-time all-American -- the most decorated athlete in program history. A total of 20 Bomber student-athletes have combined to win 27 individual national championships since 1983. As a team, the Bombers finished 13th -- the program's third-highest showing ever.
Dewart's point total ranks as the second highest in Division III women’s track & field history. She three season-best performances on the day. She tied her season-best in the high jump with a 1.69-meter clear and set season-bests of 9.85 meters in the shot put and 2:27.14 in the 800-meter run. One of 15 competing in the pentathlon, she won the high and long jumps, finished second in the 60 hurdles, third in the 800 run and eighth in the shot put.
She earned a pair of all-America finishes on the day as she also placed in the open high jump. Dewart cleared 1.65 meters to finish in a three-way tie for seventh. Junior Amanda Rissmeyer also competed in the event.

Senior Jessica Hoeffner finished 13th in the weight throw during her NCAA debut. After setting the school record with a 17.03-meter heave at the ECAC Championships,
Hoeffner wrapped up her indoor season with a mark of 16.30 meters at Grinnell. Also competing at the national meet for the first time, junior Jenn Randall raced in the mile run. She finished 14th in the event with a time of 5:09.18.
Ithaca's first women's track & field national champion came in 1992 when
Ann Marie DelSignore claimed the indoor 5,000 run championship.
