ONEONTA, NY – Twelve Hawks made it into the scoring column as Hartwick cruised to a 20-7 victory over SUNY Maritime College on Saturday in Throggs Neck, NY. Hartwick (2-0) scored the first seven goals in the opening 12 minutes of the game and never looked back to earn their second win of the season.
Senior Brittany LaVaute (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles HS), freshman Lisa Littleton (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown HS), sophomore Brittany McCabe (Manorville, NY/Eastport South Manor HS), and junior Erin Doyle (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran HS) all registered three points or more on the day for the Hawks.
LaVaute had the team-high with three goals and two assists, while Littleton added three goals and one helper. McCabe registered two goals and two assists, and Doyle notched a pair of tallies and one assist.
In addition, a trio of freshman – Emily Jweid (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro HS), Jackie Moynihan (West Islip, NY/West Islip HS), and Carly Newman (Seaford, NY/Seaford HS) – registered their first collegiate goals.
Just over two minutes into the game, Jweid would tally to give Hartwick the quick lead. It would also mark the first of five goals in the next 4:10 of action as the Hawks grabbed a 5-0 advantage. Littleton and Doyle scored 23 seconds apart and Ryan McGovern (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point HS) and Jweid each found the net in a 14-second span. Littleton and Hannah Kennedy (Avon, CT/Avon HS) earned assists on the latter two tallies.
Doyle would set up LaVaute with 20:16 showing on the first-half clock and Littleton made it 7-0 two minutes later.
Kristen Saporito got the Privateers on the scoreboard at 16:32 for the first of her game-high six goals as the hosts recorded three of the game’s next four goals. Erica Scicchitano (Centerport, NY/Harborfields HS) then scored off a McCabe feed but Catherine Brady and Saporito answered to make the score 8-3 with a little over 13 minutes to play before halftime.
McCabe and Doyle would add to Hartwick’s total before Saporito tallied on a free-position shot with 4:12 left. Hartwick would all but put the game away in the final three minutes of the half as it went on a 4-0 spurt to enter the locker room with a 14-4 edge. Emily Walsh (Cortland, NY/Cortland HS) scored her first of the year to start the run and Littleton and McCabe added unassisted goals. Moynihan then beat Maritime goalkeeper Jamie Rocco for her first score in a Hawk uniform.
The Hawks scored the first six goals of the second half. LaVaute netted two and Kennedy scored one in the first 6:12. Sophomore Ali Sisco (Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick HS) notched back-to-back tallies at 22:14 and 21:02 and Newman closed out the Hawks’ scoring with roughly 11 minutes to play.
Saporito got the game closer for the Privateers with three straight goals with under 10 minutes remaining.
Hartwick goalkeeper Steph Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs HS) made eight saves in the win. LaVaute secured a game-high five draw controls for the Hawks. Moynihan added four and she tied for the game-high in ground balls with four. Zweid caused a pair of Maritime turnovers.
