The St. John Fisher College baseball team ended its trip to Winter Haven, FL with a 20-13 win over Juniata College at the Chain of Lakes Park. In the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, the Cardinals went 6-2, pushing their season mark to 8-2.

For the second day in a row, Fisher combined for 20 or more hits, which is impressive as today’s game went just the normal nine innings, while the Cardinals needed 15 innings to achieve 21 hits yesterday in the 11-10 win over Aurora University.

The real story of the game was Fisher’s home run ability, which was displayed with Ben Bostick’s inside-the-park score in the first inning with two out, sending a rope down the left field line that gave him enough time to motor home, putting the team up 1-0.

Jason Beaumont started for the Cardinals, taking some time to settle in, giving up four runs in the first two innings, even though only one of those were earned. The senior ended up going seven solid innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs while striking out eight Juniata batters to earn his third win of the season.

After allowing three in the first inning to Juniata, Fisher showed its ability at the plate. Matt Klock singled to right center to lead off the second, followed by Ben Ward’s walk. At this point, Brad Rush stepped to the plate and dropped a three-run bomb to put Fisher up for good. Chris Roeder stepped up next, hitting a solo shot for back-to-back home runs.

Rush and Roeder were not done. Rush added two more home runs on the day, including another three-run blast in the eighth. Rush finished 3-for-5 with seven RBI and three runs scored to power Fisher.   The three home runs on the day are believed to be a new College record.

Roeder added another solo homer in the third, just one inning after his first. The shortstop finished 3-for-6 with two RBI and four runs scored.

Also having multiple hit games were Peter Krysztof, who was a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish with a walk, run scored and a RBI, along with Bostick and Sean Osterman, who each finished with two hits apiece. Osterman stole four bags on the day to lead the Cardinals, who swiped 12 bases total.

Fisher will return to New York with a week off before heading to Ohio to face Westminster College (PA) at 12 p.m. next Sunday.
