Doran's ace highlights Nazareth golf
BEAUFORT, S.C. -- Senior Colin Doran had a hole-in-one for Nazareth Monday as the Golden Flyers' men's golf team completed the first day of competition at the Taylor Made-adidas Invitational at Dataw Island Golf Club.
Nazareth is in eighth place following 36 holes of play with a team score of 712. Guilford is first with 627, followed by Hampden-Sydney, Washington & Lee, Wake Tech CC, Ohio Wesleyan, Shenandoah and Mt. St. Joseph's. Doran's ace, the first in Nazareth golf history, came on the 183-yard, par-3 12th hole with a 6-iron. Doran had rounds of 89 and 98 for a 36-hole total of 187 and stands in 46th place.
Junior Jay Stith was Nazareth's top scorer with rounds of 85 and 78 for a 163 total, good for 17th place. Other Nazareth competitors were freshman Dan Strack in 26th place with scores of 86 and 84 for a 170 total; freshman Nick Polito in 48th place with scores of 99 and 93 for a 192 total; and senior Pete Savino in 49th place with rounds of 99 and 114 for a 213 total.
Nazareth's women's team also competed and was led by freshman Jen Lachell with an 18-hole round of 95. Sophomores Anne Czelusniak and Jamie Schmidt also competed and posted rounds of 101 and 104 respectively. Junior Mindy Fowler shot 114 and sophomore Alyssa Moffat shot 124.
The invitational continues with 18 more holes on Tuesday.
