Nazareth edges Macalester, 5-4
HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Singles victories by Alison Tepas, Christine Cary and Cara Yinger lifted Nazareth to a 5-4 women's tennis victory over Macalester College of Minnesota Sunday at Hilton Head. The match was the opener of the spring break schedule for the Golden Flyers, who are 6-5 overall.
Tepas, a first-team Empire 8 Conference all-star last fall, improved to 11-0 in dual matches at second singles with a straight-set win over Macalester's Paige Schaefer. Cary also won in straight sets at third singles, while Yinger prevailed in a tiebreaker 6-4, 3-6, 10-3 at fourth singles.
Nazareth also captured two of the three doubles matches. Tepas teamed with junior Alex Vizgaitis to win 8-3 at first singles and Cary and Yinger teamed up to win 9-7 at second singles.
