KANSAS CITY, MO – Three days after being named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) East Region All-District First Team, Hartwick sophomore forward Jared Suderley (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley) has been named to the NABC Coaches’ Division III All-America Second Team.

Suderley was one of 24 Division III athletes chosen. The selections were divided into first, second, and third teams. Out of the 24 players listed, Suderley was one of only two sophomores to earn the honor.

He joins a distinguished list of only seven other players in Hartwick history to be named All-American. Willie Rackley (1971), Bill Martin (1976), Dana Gahres (1977 and 1978), Jerry Fulmer (1979), Tim O’Brien (1983), Jerry O’Grady (1984), and Joe Britton (1992) also earned the distinction. Suderley is the only player in the history of the program to earn the honor as a sophomore.

Suderley’s inclusion on the All-America team is one of several accolades that he has earned this season. Earlier this week, Suderley was named the D3hoops.com All-East Region First Team. Last month, Suderley was named the Empire 8 Player of the Year and to the conference’s first team.

A two-time Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week and two-time D3hoops.com team of the week selection, Suderley led the Hawks in several categories including scoring average (19.4), field goals made (205), field goal attempts (118), free throws made (98), free throw attempts (118), offensive rebounds (80), and  minutes played (33.9).

Located in Kansas City, MO, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas.  Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game.  The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men’s basketball coaches.
