Utica Wins Both Games to Move to 5-4
KISSIMMEE, FL (3/15/12)- The Utica College softball team won both its games in the second to last day of the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL.
In the first game, UC fell down 1-0 in the first inning when McDaniel scored. The Pioneers came back in the third, scoring two runs of their own. That was al it took as the UC defense took over and held the Green Terror scoreless after the first inning. Freshman Briona Enny picked up her first collegiate win.
In the second game, UC jumped out to an early lead as Meghan Matan got a lead-off single. Next, Mallory Ingalls hit a line drive to third base that the third baseman bobbled, allowing Ingalls to get to first. After a wild throw, Ingalls and Matan each scored, giving UC a 2-0 lead.
In the fifth inning, Matan got to first on a fielders choice. Ingalls hit a single, and Krtistie Jones walked, to load the bases for freshman Courtney Fitzgerald, who hit a two- RBI double to score Ingalls and Matan. Junior Bridgette Plummer also single to drive in a run.
UC scored eight runs in the sixth inning to close out the game. Heather Kingsbury picked up her fourth win, to move to 4-1, while Cassidy Thompson secured her fourth save.
