Rochester, NY – Meghan Pass ’12 (Owego, NY -- Owego Free Academy) scored eight goals as the Elmira College Women’s Lacrosse team downed host Roberts Wesleyan College, 18-12, Saturday afternoon in Rochester. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 3-1, while the loss drops the Raiders to 1-3.
Pass scored off the opening faceoff setting the tone early that EC’s offense would be tough to hold down. The Soaring Eagles scored the first four goals of the game, with Lindsay Mitchell ’12 (Arnold, MD -- Arnold) and Jordan Donegan ’12 (Syracuse, NY -- Corcoran) tallying scores along with two from Pass. Elmira and Roberts Wesleyan began exchanging goals, as each team rattled off three straight scores. However, Elmira tallied three of the final four scores of the half to take an 11-6 advantage into intermission.
The Raiders scored quickly out of halftime to narrow its deficit to four goals, but the Purple and Gold responded with three straight markers in the next six minutes to take a commanding, 14-7 lead. Roberts Wesleyan would get no closer than six goals, as Elmira cruised to an 18-12 victory.
Pass led EC with eight goals and one assist, beating Raider netminder Stephanie McClure eight of the nine times she placed a shot on net. Mitchell finished with three goals, while Emma Schepers ’13 (Elmvale, ONT -- Team Ontario) and Donegan tallied two goals apiece. MaryKate Gellerman ’13 (Fredrick, MD -- Urbana) made six saves in the win for the Soaring Eagles, while McClure stopped five shots in the loss for the Raiders.
The EC Women’s Lacrosse team returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Dallas, Pennsylvania to take on Lycoming College at 1:00 p.m.
