200-Free Relay Highlights Day 2 at NCAA's for Stevens Men's Swimming

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 21, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s swimming team is in 12th place after two days of competition at the 2012 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. The 200-yard freestyle relay team led the way for Stevens as the Ducks will look to continue to climb the leaderboard Friday.

Day 2 Preliminaries

Sophomore Joe Huyett (Blandon, Pa.), sophomore Elijah Davis (Broomfiield, Colo.), sophomore Shawn Hanak (North Royalton, Ohio) and senior Carl Nagle (Little Silver, N.J.) earned a spot in the consolation final with a 14th-place finish in the 200-freestyle relay. The group carded a 1:23.86. Junior John Hu (Oak Harbor, Wash.) did the same in the 400-yard individual medley, tallying a 3:59.64 and placing 11th.

Junior Alex Benham (Raleigh, N.C.) and sophomore Nick Noga (Oriskany, N.Y.) took 22nd and 23rd in the 200-yard freestyle prelims (1:40.53, 1:40.98), with Hanak, Hu, junior Greg Charriez (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) and Huyett taking 21st in the 400-yard medley relay (3:27.26).

Day 2 Finals

The Ducks opened the evening session with a 12th-place finish in the 200-free relay, clocking a 1:23.50 as Huyett, Noga, Hanak and Nagle walked away with honorable mention All-America honors and 10 team points.

Hu took 10th in the consolation finals of the 400-IM netting honorable mention All-America honors and seven points with a 3:56.55.

Kenyon College currently is in the lead with 195 points, and Denison University is in second. The Ducks have a two-day total of 33 points and are the top school in the Empire 8 and second in the state (The College of New Jersey) heading into Friday.
