Elmira Wins Big Against Pitt-Bradford

Bradford, PA -- The EC Men’s Tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Wednesday evening at Kessel Athletic Complex. Elmira battled tough through each match and proved to be the stronger team ousting the Panthers in some long points. The Soaring Eagles improve to 1-1 overall, while the Panthers drop to 2-3 overall.
 
At first doubles, Eric Klinedinst ’12 (York, PA -- Northeastern) and Steffan Waters ’13 (Elmira, NY -- Elmira Free Academy), the Purple and Gold came ready to play dropping only the first two games then winning the next eight games for the victory. Gorav Simlote ’13 (Syracuse, NY -- Jamesville-Dewitt) and Sam Pine ’14 (Elmira, NY -- Thomas Edison) at second doubles encountered some struggles early and late, but ultimately pulled out the win 8-5 to give EC its second team point. The only loss for EC came at third doubles where the Panthers prevailed 8-3.
 
In singles action Klinedinst and Waters carried the team with neither one giving up more than two games. At third and sixth singles, Pine and Michael Dewitt ’11 (Queensbury, NY -- Queensbury played tough triumphing to victory in straight sets. At second and fifth singles, Simlote and George Smith ’13 (Watseka, IL -- Granite City) battled tough eventually closing out both matches in three sets.
