Bombers Hold On To Edge Geneseo, 14-13
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca women's lacrosse team (3-1) outlasted visiting Geneseo (2-1) on Wednesday afternoon at Higgins Stadium.
The Bombers powered to a 9-4 lead at the half, but the Blue Knights answered in the second outscoring Ithaca, 9-5. Geneseo pulled within 10-8 early in the latter half, but Ithaca responded making it a 12-8 game. Geneseo again surged to knot action, 12-12, but Ithaca netted two of the final three goals to seal the victory.
Junior Tracy Rivas scored a game-high four goals and senior Nicole Borisenok added a hat trick to lead the Bombers. Juniors Nikki Dahl, Kim Armbruster and Michelle Avery each scored twice.
Dahl added team-bests of three ground balls, six draw controls and three caused turnovers. Freshman Molly Fischer scored once, while
Armbruster and
Rivas had three and two assists, respectively. Junior Jess Worthman collected her third win in goal this season making two saves.
The Bombers outshot Geneseo, 39-21, while each squad collected 14 groundballs. Ithaca won 18 draw controls to the Blue Knights’ 11.
Ithaca opened all scoring with goals from Borisenok and Armbruster en route to a 6-2 lead at the 16-minute mark of the first. Geneseo twice cut within three before Avery and Rivas scored to boost Ithaca’s lead to 9-4 at the break.
Armbruster tallied on a free position shot at 25:25 of the second to give the Bombers a six-goal advantage, but Geneseo responded with four straight goals and eight of the next 10 to bring the game to a 12-12 stalemate. Rivas notched back-to-back goals at 4:27 and 2:18 to propel the Bombers to victory. The Blue Knights scored the game’s final goal with 37 ticks on the clock.
