Dallas, PA – The Elmira College Women’s Lacrosse team dominated Lycoming College 15-8 on Saturday afternoon. Although the Warriors controlled the game in shots, ground balls and draws, the Soaring Eagles controlled the game in the scoring department, converting on 71 percent of its shots to earn the victory. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 4-1, while the loss drops the Lions to 3-4.
In the first half the game went back-and-forth with each team going on scoring runs. Lycoming started off the scoring 3:32 in, but EC answered with four goals of its own to take a 4-1 lead. The Warriors countered with three goals of its own around the nine minute mark to tie the game at 4-4. EC replied with another two goals to take the lead with a little less than two minutes left, but Lycoming answered with another goal with 1:19 left to make it 6-5. With five seconds left in the half Meghan Pass ’12 (Owego, NY -- Owego Free Academy) scored her second goal of the game after a Lycoming turnover to give EC a 7-5 lead at halftime.
In the second half the Purple and Gold started to dominate play causing more turnovers and converting more shots into goals. EC outscored the Warriors in the second half 8-3 with
Pass and
Lindsay Mitchell ’12 (Arnold, MD -- Arnold) leading the way.
Pass finished the game with a game-high four goals and three ground balls, while Mitchell finished with a game-high six points in the form of three goals and three assists. Jordan Donegan ’12 (Syracuse, NY -- Corcoran), Samantha Risi ’14 (Coopersburg, PA -- Southern Lehigh) and Marissa Mongillo ’15 (Shelton, CT -- Trumbull) also performed very well. Donegan finished with two goals and two assists, while Risi and Mongillo finished with three and two goals each, respectively. Mary Kate Gellerman ’13 (Fredrick, MD -- Urbana) made six saves in the win for the Soaring Eagles.
