Geyer, Moores Lead Stevens Women's Swimming on Day 3 at NCAA's

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 23, 2012) – Freshman Brittany Geyer (Brunswick, Ohio) and sophomore Louise Moores (Mukilteo, Wash.) each secured individual All-America honors with fifth-place finishes to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s swimming team on Day 3 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. The Ducks are currently in fifth place overall.

The Ducks have 157 team points and lead all Empire 8 and New Jersey institutions. Emory University is in first place with Williams College in second. Denison University and Kenyon College, along with Stevens, round out the top five.

Day 3 Preliminaries

The third day of action began with the 200-yard butterfly prelims, and senior Sian Pearson (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) clocked a 2:07.95 to take 20th overall. Moores touched seventh with a 56.25 in the 100-yard backstroke to earn a trip to the championship final, with Geyer doing the same by taking fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke. Her 1:04.14 broke her own program-record.

Day 3 Finals

Moores was the first Duck swimmer to take to the pool in the Day 3 finals. The sophomore placed fifth in the 100-backstroke with a time of 55.98. She picked up 14 teams points and earned All-America honors in the event – her second individual top-eight of the national championship meet.

Geyer took fifth overall in the 100-yard breaststroke final, re-breaking her school-record with a 1:03.83. She earned 14 teams points and walked away with her second individual All-America nod of the meet as well.

In the last event of the night, the 800-yard freestyle relay, senior Hayley Hatfield (Dallas, Texas), freshman Nicole Miller (Peoria, Ill.), junior Marissa Douglas (Cumberland, R.I.) and Pearson teamed to take 10th. The Ducks carded a time of 7:39.64 and earned 14 team points.

In total, the Ducks have 18 All-America accolades and five honorable mention All-America honors at this year's NCAA's.
