Golden Flyers place 10th

INDIANAPOLIS -- Nazareth's 400-yard medley relay team broke its own school record Thursday as the Golden Flyers moved up to 10th place in the finals of the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the IU Natatorium.

The foursome of sophomore Maura Reissig, junior Carissa Risucci, senior Rachael Phipps and sophomore Emily Sauter produced a time of 3:51.73, more than one second faster than their preliminary time from Thursday morning. The same foursome placed 16th in the 200-yard medley relay on Wednesday.

In Thursday's race, each swimmer swam a personal best split -- Reissig :58.98 in the 100 backstroke, Risucci 1:03.88 in the 100 breaststroke, Phipps :56.20 in the 100 butterfly and Sauter :52.67 in the 100 freestyle.

"All four swam unbelievably well," said Nazareth Coach Martie Staser. "They are all very excited about their performances."

By finishing in the top 16, the Nazareth foursome earns honorable mention All-American status in each event.

Phipps also competed Thursday in the 100-yard butterfly and finished in 21st place with a time :57.02.
