Elmira Tops Morrisville in First Game of 2012 Season
Morrisville, NY – The Elmira College Women’s Lacrosse team won its first game of the 2012 spring season beating the Mustangs of SUNY Morrisville 13-8 on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Soaring Eagles move to 1-0 on the season, while the Mustangs fall to 0-1.
The Soaring Eagles came out on fire scoring the first four goals of the game with Meghan Pass ’12 (Owego, NY -- Owego Free Academy) leading the charge. The Mustangs finally responded at the 10:41 and 7:35 marks with two goals to cut the lead in half, both goals being scored by Shelby Wood. To end the half both teams scored two more goals to make the game 6-4 at halftime. Scoring both goals for EC was Jessica Blinkinsop ’14 (Temecula, CA -- Great Oak).
The second half continued to be competitive as the Mustangs were able to pull the game within one goal at the 29:27 mark with a free position goal. However, the Soaring Eagles stretched its lead back out to four goals with 20 minutes left in the game. Morrisville would continue to fight, but the Elmira offense stayed strong finishing the game off 13-8.
Seven EC players were able to score in the win with Pass and Jordan Donegan ’12 (Syracuse, NY -- Corcoran) leading the Soaring Eagle attack. Pass and Donegan both contributed three goals apiece, while Blinkinsop and Marissa Mongillo ’15 (Shelton, CT -- Trumbull) tallied two goals each. Marki Michaels ’13 (Manchester, NY -- Midlakes) was also a factor for the offense registering one goal, three assists and four ground balls. LeAnna Presler ’14 (Livonia, NY -- Livonia) earned the win for EC making 14 stops, while Danielle Puzio made nine saves in the loss for Morrisville.
