Luna Sets Stevens Record in Javelin at Coach P Open
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (April 1, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s outdoor track & field team competed at the Coach P Open hosted by Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa. on April 14. Junior Sebastian Luna (Wood-Ridge, N.J.) re-established the school record in the javelin throw, placing fourth in event. There was no team scoring at the meet.
Luna threw the javelin 59.95 meters (196 feet, 8 inches), topping his previous mark set last week of 59.13. Junior Sean Humphreys (Boonton Twp., N.J.) also competed in the javelin and recorded a throw of 54.69 meters (179’5”) to finish seventh.
Recording third place finishes in the high jump and 3,000-meter steeple chase events were junior Victor Servito (Teaneck, N.J.) and freshman Matthew Bombard (Wayne, N.J.), respectively. Servito cleared the bar at 1.91 meters (6’3.25”), while Bombard crossed the line in a time of 10:23.77.
Servito also ran in the 110-meter hurdles and placed fourth in 15.48 seconds. Freshman Kristopher Alvarez (Hainesport, N.J.) finished in 16.04 seconds in the same event and placed sixth, while fellow freshman Robert Pinto (Staten Island, N.Y.) took fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.86 meters (6’ 1.25”).
Sophomore Joel Oquendo (North Bergen, N.J.) placed eighth in the discus throw with a toss of 39.01 meter (128’).
