Ithaca Chases Sixth Straight Men's Track and Field Outdoor Title
Ithaca College chases its sixth consecutive outdoor title at the Empire 8 Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday at Ithaca.
Senior thrower Jusan Hamilton of Ithaca was recently named Empire 8 Indoor Field Athlete of the Year and freshman distance runner Mason Mann of the Bombers was the co-recipient of the Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Year award. Senior Doug Koury of the Bombers was named Empire 8 Track and Field Athlete of the Week this past week and junior Matt Confer earned the honor the previous week.
Senior Joe Pruckno of Utica College was named Empire 8 Indoor Track Athlete of the Year after his All-American indoor season in the 60-meter hurdles. Sophomore thrower Dwight Hicks of the Pioneers earned the conference weekly honor earlier this season.
Freshman Ira Griffin of Nazareth College shared the Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Rookie honors after setting school records in the 55- and 200-meter dashes.
Junior Sebastian Luna of Stevens Institute of Technology is coming off a school record-setting performance in the javelin throw last weekend. Sophomore Michael Cahill earned Empire 8 Athlete of the Week honors at the beginning of April.
Senior Rich Scott (400 meters) and junior Andre McCloud (100 meters) of Alfred University each won events at the Westminster Outdoor Invitational last weekend.
St. John Fisher College is competing in the outdoor conference championship for the first time. Eric Riley won the high jump and long jump at the ROC City Classic at Nazareth earlier this season.
